Oxford County Jail Roster

The Oxford County Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county correctional facility in the state of Maine. Public information about current and recently released inmates can be found on the OxfordCourt.us website. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Oxford County Sheriff, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster is maintained by the Oxford County Sheriff's Office and is updated regularly. This tool provides transparency in law enforcement operations, allowing citizens to track arrests and confirm the detention status of specific individuals.

Search Current Inmates in Oxford Jail

To find information about a person in custody at the Oxford County Jail, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to OxfordCourt.us and use the search form to view public information about court cases and inmates.
  2. To search for individuals in the state Department of Corrections system, use the Maine Department of Corrections search tool. Note: this service only displays those under state jurisdiction, not necessarily in the local county facility.
  3. Electronic court records for Oxford County are gradually becoming available through the Maine eCourts system — criminal cases will appear after September 2025.

To start your search, you will need:

  • The person's full legal name (last name and first name)
  • The booking number, if known

Minors are not displayed in the public roster — juvenile records are closed according to state law.

By Phone

Call the Oxford County Jail directly. The operator can confirm if a specific person is in custody if you provide the full name or booking number. Be prepared for the phone line to be busy during peak hours.

In-Person Visit

You can visit the Oxford County Jail reception and request information about an inmate directly from the staff. Bring identification with you. Visitor hours may be limited — check in advance by phone.

Find Oxford Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time a person is brought to the Oxford County Jail and processed for detention. This is the first official document that records the fact of arrest and admission to the facility.

During the booking process, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • Charges presented
  • Arresting agency (city police, county sheriff, state police, etc.)
  • Basic demographic data of the detainee

Access to these records can be obtained in several ways. The sheriff's website roster usually contains basic booking information for individuals currently in custody. If you need older records or more detailed information, submit a written public records request to the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.

For criminal cases already in court proceedings, use the Maine eCourts portal, where Oxford County Superior Court records are gradually appearing. Court documents and forms are also available through the Maine court records page.

Search the Oxford Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the person's last name in the appropriate field. Adding the first name will narrow the results if the last name is common. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one extra letter can result in no results
  • Try spelling variations if you're unsure (e.g., "MacDonald" instead of "McDonald")
  • If the system displays a list without a search field, use the browser's Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) function to quickly find the desired name

Search by Booking Number

This method provides the most accurate result. The booking number is a unique identifier assigned to each admission case. If a relative or attorney has provided you with this number, enter it in the appropriate field.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a name in the roster does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  1. The person has already been released — the roster only displays current inmates
  2. Processing is not yet complete, and the record has not yet appeared in the system
  3. The person has been transferred to another facility or the state system
  4. The name is recorded differently than you expect

In such cases, call the facility directly or check the Maine Department of Corrections database to find out if the person is under state jurisdiction.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Oxford

The frequency of updates to the Oxford County Jail roster depends on the facility's internal procedures. Most county jails in Maine update their online rosters during the business day, but this does not happen instantly. There may be a delay of several hours to a whole day between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay after arrest. Until the booking process (photographing, fingerprinting, data entry) is complete, the name will not appear in the roster.
  • Disappearance after release. When a person is released — on bail, by court decision, or after serving a term — their record is removed from the current roster. The roster is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Transfer. If an inmate is transferred to a state or federal facility, they will disappear from the county roster.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes the name or date of birth is entered incorrectly, complicating the search.

To obtain historical data on past arrests or bookings no longer in the online roster, submit a public records request to the Oxford County Sheriff's Office. Information about arrest warrants in the state is governed by Title 15, §653, which pertains to the statewide warrant management system.
